Default 1930-31 Convertible top patterns needed

I am planning on stitching my own convertible top for my '30 roadster. I've been searching online for a pattern to follow but unfortunately haven't found one.

Does anyone have a pattern that I can use or maybe be a torn/old top, beyond rescue, that I could use to take a pattern ofF?

Well, there is no such thing as "a pattern" for this. To begin with, I don't have any of the prints for a 40B Standard, but I bet there are 15 or more prints for each of the components that make up the 40B DeLuxe top assembly by the time you include all the different pieces.

The prints are available thru the Benson Ford Research Center in Dearborn Michigan during normal circumstances however the lady over the library has stated they will be closed at least until July, and will be evaluating the opening date at that time, so you are not going to be able to order until they reopen..

By the time you pay for the the prints to each component and purchase the material you may wish you had purchased a top from the suppliers. Sometimes money not spent is not money saved !

In case you are wondering, the prints from the Benson can not be shared. They can only be used by the person that bought and payed for them.

Some what similar to the next Thread (convertible top patterns). I plan on purchasing the top - most likely from Cartouche. I am looking for help to make sure I install it correctly. Does anyone have good installation / directions or a DVR I can have or use? The vehicle is still totally disassembled, so I won’t buy the top for awhile. [email protected]

Brent,

Thank you for the info...I had no idea such place existed. Pretty cool!
I realized I have the Deluxe top irons, so I will need the patterns for a deluxe model top instead.
I am planning on stitching my own top. It doesn't have to be exact, but I am hoping to get it as close as possible to one.
I am mostly interested on the header piece...I haven't been able to understand how it wraps on the header, from the video and few pictures I have found.
I am also interested on the side pads, just understanding how they fit within the top material....there rest I might be able to scale it and make look ok.

Thank you again for the info, I appreciate it.

Agree.
Not sure the price of the prints yet. Couldn't find any pricing yet.
I might just need some good pictures and start scaling the parts I need.

You can raise the top irons and pin an old bed sheet on it to make a pattern. Muslin would likely be better but you get the idea. Look at photos to see where they are reinforced and where sections may be overlapped or valanced. Some folks like to customize the style like the little blue 29 that Mike Bishop & Vern Tardel built for their traditional hot rod book.

Get some books on the subject & watch any videos that might be available. Kits make life easy but if you want something different then go for it. This is one video that will give an idea of what's involved with pads, reinforcements, and the like.
