Default Confidence Milestone

Ever since I have gotten the rear of my 29 tudor back together I have been slowly increasing the length of my test drives. With the installation of a Marvel Carb and new manifolds it has been running really well.

I had to run to the market this morning. So I though - what the hell use the tudor (picture 1). You might think I would be worried about getting a scratch. Not where I park (picture 2)!

All went well except for one operator error that revealed itself before I left the parking lot.

-master switch on
-spark lever up
-throttle cracked
- GAV 1/2 turn open
- ignition switch on
- start with just a touch of choke

OK what did I forget?

Many times... I have a shut-off under the tank and one at the carburetor. I still forget at least one of them...

Isolating the car from the rest of the herd usually winds up a mistake. There is a class of idiots that will look at it,think, look at that high and mighty SOB,and make it a target.A psycolygyst I worked for explained it to me,there is even a name for it.If you park in the back corner of a parking lot, when you come back there seems to be a couple of cars parked around you. Those are the harmless ones. The body shops around here call it an invitation to get keyed. They mostly see it with modern special interest cars, the new Mustangs,Chargers, and new cars that people are proud of and want to protect for a while.I was at a plaza years ago with a nice 55 Chevy. My two friends had a 57 and a 58.They parked way across the parking lot,all by themselves, and when we came out of the store they found their cars had been keyed. No reason, just plain mean acts.

Whatever car I happen to be in, modern or Model A, it's the closest spot I can find. If I have to use the "Blue" card hanging from the mirror, so be it.

If I parked that far from the store, I'd have to call a cab to get me to the front door.

Yep I forgot to turn the gas on. At least now I know how long the A will run on just the gas in the bowl of a marvel carb!
