Default 1962 Ford overdrive question

My wife has a 62 galaxie wagon with a Overdrive trans in it.
I,m filling the trans with oil and the overdrive fill plug is a pain to get to.
My question is,Can I fill the overdrive thru the speedo drive hole or is there a seal in front of the speedo drive?
Thanks for the help

The proper procedure is to fill the main transmission section, then top up the OD section. The speedo drive gear is roughly on the same plane as the OD fill plug so you might be good to go using it. No seal in there.

Thanks for the reply.
I have already filled the trans and just need to top up the overdrive as you said.
Just hard to get to the OD filler hole
Thats why I thought the speedo drive hole would work

If you can pull back the carpet there should be a plug in the floor that is roughly over the filler. Pull the plug and you should be able to snake a hose down to the filler hole. Or you could do what I do and pump it in from underneath. BTW you need to use non-hypoid oil in the trans. Hypoid (differential oil) contains additives that attack the brass synchronizers. Don't know if you're aware of that.

FYI; on my 55 sedan, the OD would stick every now and then, not engage. I drained the trans overnight, refilled the trans with 85-90 gear lube, then topped off the OD with ATF. It never stuck again.

Mine does exactly the same, usually after sitting for a few weeks. I'll have try the ATF trick. Thx Ole Don.
