Gas tank sizes
Just purchased a sweet 30 A Roadster that had a total frame off resto 2007-2011 and was garaged from then until I acquired it. My question is: did the Roadster have a smaller gas tank than the Coupe? I also have a 30 Coupe. Fuel gauges in both seem to function well but I've always kept a marked dowel stick in the shop just to be sure. The depth of the Roadster tank appears to be about two thirds the depth of the Coupe tank. In Les Andrew's manual it says 11 gallons for the 30-31 Model A. I assume that means all A's. Has anyone ever seen an A with a smaller fuel tank?

Re: Gas tank sizes
Maybe one has a flame arrester and one doesn't.

Re: Gas tank sizes
1930 & 1931 gas tanks all hold 11 gallons and fit the same in all 1930 & '31 body style cowls with one exception. In 1931 the gas shutoff valve was moved into the engine compartment, and those gas tanks have a different gas outlet fitting. Also, early to mid 1930 gas tanks use the 1929 oval instrument panel. Some 1930 trucks used 1929 leftover gas tanks until the stock was depleted.

Re: Gas tank sizes
The spark arrester would’ve very obvious immediately. It’s Not likely a consideration.

Re: Gas tank sizes
The Roadster does have the spark arrester and the Coupe does not. I'm sure it must to have had one at some point. That is why my "dowel stick gauge" would not go down as far as it does in the Coupe. The spare on the passenger side made it hard to see into the tank. With a small step stool I could see the spark arrester. Thanks everyone for the info
