You are doing hot rod stuff, so you probably should ask this question on the HAMB.

But, I can say that it’s not usual for only one inch of clearance by using a T spring. Is that aftermarket spring made lower?

With modifications it’s hard to figure what was done, what year banjo axle?— perhaps a later one with perches welded on set too wide and the spring stretched out??

Can you post a picture? I'm assuming you are talking about the spring end. Is the main leaf reversed as well?

With stock shackles, you should be OK. You can check it by pressing down on the spring and watch it go through it's arc. If it doesn't hit, it's fine. If it does, then you need to figure something else out. You don't want it hit the top of the axle bell when it's fully compressed.

Yes this is a model T made as a model A width 2.5 reverse eyes will lower 3 inch the car, if used on top of the axle, i'm using spring behind the axle

It's a 37-40 reat banjo spring behind the axle perch to perch should be 48-49" if. I remember correct, frame is not zded

Yes that's a model T made to run on model A cross member in the instructions says it works also with spring behind axle that's my case and it's a reverse eyes don't want to notch a fresh boxed frame, i have seen around the rear transverse leaf spring should be 4 to 5 inch travel, i think i'm far from this a lot, but in the weekend i will make some mods and post pictures
Thanks all for the aswers

your 40 axle perch is farther apart than A axle by 2 or 3 inches I believe. gonna be tough to get the shackles in place

You left out the most important details. The spring behind the axle will lower it a lot, even without the reversed eyes or a T spring. I think you dug yourself a hole, literally. Too low. Put a regular A spring back in it for more axle clearance.

I use a '27 model T rear crossmember and '27 T rear spring with a non-reversed main leaf on a '40 (spring behind) banjo in my AV8 on a '32 frame.

It sits great. In fact, I'm thinking of reverse the main to lower it an 1" more.

If your spring is mounted behind the axle, with a stock model a cross member, the axle will not be centered in the rear fender. I think your best fix would be to weld sping perches to the top of the axle, Millworks sells them for this purpose. Worked for my AV8.

Ah, yes. Depending what model body he has, the cross member could also be moved back. May have to extend the frame, but can be done.

Your suggestion is the easiest if planning to use the stock rear crossmember location.

yep good point lesson learned with tax shipping and other cost the spring costed me around 1000$ hope with a normal model A spring will clear the problem

my cross member is just point welded i can move when i want the frame is not full welded just to prevent this type of problem

This is how the car sits with a '27 T rear spring with all the leaves and a non-reversed main using a '27 T rear crossmember. I left all of the leaves in since it is a rumble and my boys do ride back there at times.

Actually, Model A spring over perch width is 49-1/2" while '35-'40 spring behind axle perches are 48" between centers.

Alchemy:

I run spring behind on my '32 railed AV8 roadster. I've never bottomed out even with my teenage sons in the rumble. My '28 body also overhangs the rear of the frame rails and does not sit on top of the rails. I do have oil filled cheapie shocks in the rear as well.

There’s a lot of difference between the A frame and a 32 frame. The kick above the axle will give enough room with the 32. No room with the flat A frame. My brother ran into the same problem 20 years ago. I think he did a little C notch, but still doesn’t have a ton of room. And, he used a stock A spring.
