35 Ford steering box
I have a 1935 Ford pickup and want to change to a better box for easier steering. Will a 525 Saginau fit without too much trouble? I’ve heard people have had trouble with the Vega boxes not lasting. I am running Red’s headers.

That might be a better question for the HAMB. If it was me, I would be looking at an F1 or F100 box if you want to modify it to straight steering. A later (37-40) box if you want to keep the cross-steering.

35 pickup, a easy upgrade is a 37 to 48 car box, but really a 37 to 40. The 41 to 48 have a longer steering shaft.

Thanks everyone, I think I will try to find a later model steering box. From what I have read it seems the way to go, but may be hard to find. Thanks again.

If you have any interest in using a 41-48 box, I have one that is freshly rebuilt, never used. I bought it from someone not realizing Mercurys have a longer shaft. Ended up just having mine rebuilt so I have an extra.

Before trying to put a f1 or f100 box in a 35 ford pickup a vega box would be less work.
Change the frame bracket to.a 37 to 40 bracket and bolt in the box. 35 was the first for cross steer not a drag link front to back |

i have a Friend that put a 37 box in his 35. he had me move it out of his shop, it felt like it had power stearing

I believe converting your 35 pu to a 37 to 39 steering box would be the best way to go if you want to retain a stock column drop, column tube, steering wheel, horn/light switch rod, and light switch wiring at bottom of steering box. The locking collar attacked to steering shaft may need to be moved and the frame mounting bracket changed to the 37 to 40 version. The rolling sector gear used in the later steering boxes beginning in 37, gives a significant steering improvement over the earlier boxes that used a fixed tooth sector gear,
The f1/f100 steering boxes would be a good choice on 34 and earlier vehicles.

My 35 was switched to a 40 steering column in box. Of course they also switch the 40 transmission which made the column shift practical. I have not had a chance to drive it yet, but I’m sure it’s an improvement over the 35.

This would be a good option by switching the 35 shaft with Ralphs 48 it would work, you need to press of the worm ,
