The purple comes from the chemicals used in the glass and sun light, just like bottle found in the desert. Not any thing done on purposes. H is just the letter used for the new style lens after most states enacted laws about head light beams. The two do not have anything to do with each other except some H lens turn purple most do not.

Yep the manganese in the glass does it. Looks great on a T.

Some glass telegraph insulators made in the 20s were clear until exposed for a while in the sun on the poles, It was a new way to make clear glass at the time with very pretty results but a failure of what they were trying to accomplish.

Years IIRC are '22 and later... 20-21 (and maybe 19) had the green "visored" clear ones, before that were clear.

By the way - the "visored" ones are rare as hens teeth. I have been looking for a pair for years - have seen a total of 3 on cars, and one solo lens for sale. I ended up with period correct "louvered" aftermarket lenses because I didn't like blinding people with my headlights.
