Default Surprise!

I went shopping at the local Canadian Tire Store today, look what was inside the store.... What a nice surprise.... This is the store that allows one of our weekly cruises in their parking lot every Saturday night in the summer. Sometimes there's 600 cars there! (not all A's, mostly modern stuff)

See if you can stuff it in the 1.99 barrel.

That's fun! Reading the sign however is a little scary. It sounds like they intend to auction it off claiming it to be a 255-A instead of a home-built custom. I hope I misinterpreted. It's one of the nicer looking wooden home-builts I've seen but....

Yes, the sign says "this particular Model A to be auctioned off in 2012", and then the picture shows a different vehicle. I don't understand it either, but Canadian Tire is a wholly owned Canadian company that has been around since 1924. In 1937, they were so busy at their parts store on Yonge St., Toronto, that their employees wore roller skates to fill the orders! I don't think anything here is on the shady side, just advertising people who don't know an A from anything else.

To bad it wasn't a raffle instead of an auction, I'd be buying a ticket!

On the front bumper, the passenger side turn light (I assume it to be turn) is amber and the driver side is a very dark color. Are Canadian turn signals different colors side to side? Just currious.

This should be a good example ...for anybody wondering how Clear Coat Paint effects the look of a vintage car.

I believe the left lense is missing .. If front turn lights are installed both front turn lights are required to be amber in Canada ...

That's cool!

Something similar.....
If you've ever been through Bangor, Maine and stopped at Dysart's truck stop to eat.......to the left of the reception desk sits an all stock 28/29 RPU. Dark green and black fendered. It doesn't slap you in the face when you walk in cause the bed is angled away from you and filled with their "stuff" you can purchase. I've been there twice and most folks take no notice of it.

Maybe he just makes right hand turns to be safe.

After most cars being put away for a while, it was nice to see one right out there in the open. Is it original, no, but as far as I was concerned, it is nice. Someone put a lot of effort into doing a very respectable restoration. When it is sold, the money will go to a very worthwhile charity to help kids! What more could you ask? If they were giving it away, I'd be first in line, and would drive it as is. ( I would change/remove those turn signals though! )

Pick it apart, if you must, but I like it! I was thinking about this one and all the deliveries... one is truly driving with a huge blind spot behind them.

Would you like to bid and win what you were told was a 50k car (even if you got it for 40k) and after owning it a short time find out you purchased a home built creation worth 15k? Personally I'd be looking at the legal system to remedy the situation REGARDLESS of who benefited from my being cheated.

Now does that make sense to anyone besides Timothy and myself? Neither he nor I are disparaging the vehicle in any way, just the apparent ethics (or lack of) by the soon to be seller. The potential results can end up hurting everyone involved including the charity.

Marco: Hopefully someone who was going to part with more than 10-15K would do his homework. I know i would as I'm very frugal (cheap).

Happy New Year to ALL!!!

What amazes me is how they (the charity) didn't realize the car in question looks nothing like the one pictured on the sign. I think the delivery on the sign is from the Bill Swigart Auction isn't it?

.
One paragraph seems to describe the PICTURE as being the one auctioned off for $66,000.xx...that's how I read it.
The last paragraph is definately worded wrong & needs alot of work to clarify what's actually for sale. Hopefully they'll get on this.

Ok, I bit my tongue long enough...... I thought it was a pretty nice "home built creation" until I saw the picture of the back. The doors on the right have the wood grain running vertical while the doors on the left has the panel wood grain running horizontal. That is a big "no no"! My woodworking is no where near perfect but I would never do that.

I do wish them well on raising money for a charity, but I hope there is "truth in advertising" prior to the auction.
