Hi all,

Does any one know of a source that sells new front and rear brake drums for 33/34 cars ? (to replace stock drums)

I have never heard of a source of reproduction drums but a little patience and an ad in the "wanted" section should turn up some. You might do a search on the "for sale" section using the advanced search as I have seen them for sale here recently. A lot of people go to hydraulics and make these drums available.

Charlie, the problem with used drums is just that.... they are used drums.

They must have been re surfaced so many times by now that they are all probably beyond their maximum usable diameter.

I see new drums available for the model As. Shame no one makes them for the 33/34 cars.

Does anyone know the stock drum diameters so that one could check how far they have been re surfaced ?

The original diameter was 12 inches. The generally accepted, and in some states legal, maximum is 12.060 inches. I think you would be surprised what is still hiding in people's garages. According to the Green Bible 1932 to 1934 interchange but if I remember correctly there is a slight difference to the restorer (maybe it was the number of fins on the drum but it has been a long time since I looked into it).

Some of those drums were the open type. Here is a link to Vince's site that has ID information. http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/3132frontbrakedrums.htm

Thanks guys.

I did find and read Vince's write up on the subject before.

I really don't mind what it looks like as long as it works and I can buy new drums.

I see that they make model A drums new (in cast iron) and 1940 drums new.

Any idea what it would take to fit 1940 drums on a 33/34 ?
