Light Switch / Horn Rattle
Hello All,
Well I finally got the rebuilt steering box and column in and test drove the car yesterday. I have an issue with a Headlight Switch/Horn rattle that is driving me up the wall. I sued Les Andrews Book 1 throughout the rebuild.
Not sure what's happening but it rattles like mad, to the point I do not want to drive it while listening to it. Anyone know of the issue. I searched and found no solutions, just the same answers that lead to nothing. Reagrds Bill |

Re: Light Switch / Horn Rattle
Hi Benson, ...
No, I do not. I have one, but didn't install because there was not one when I disassembled everything (took photos) and everything was fine then as far as the rattling issue is concerned. It's my understanding that that part is only used when the horn or light do not work properly which mine do. Horn rod is straight as an arrow. I guess I could lower the column and install it but I'm curious as to why I would need the part now when it was not installed in the first place. Regards Bill |

That is a nice link, wish I would have had that before I reworked the part. It was slightly crushed and I had to make it round again. I thought the rolled bottom edge was yet another wonky new part I always seem to get. I flattened out the rolled bottom edge. Now to rework it again. Regards Bill |

Re: Light Switch / Horn Rattle
Also make sure the spark and throttle levers aren't making the noise. They can rattle if they don't have the felts installed. Original was rubber, but felts work OK.

Re: Light Switch / Horn Rattle
I also had a rattle in the horn rod assembly.
I had installed the bushing. It would stop when I put my finger on the light switch lever. I finally figured out that the light switch piece that also holds the horn button was loose on the rod. I was able to remove the horseshoe shaped retaining clip on the bottom of the rod and pull the rod up enough the remove the horn button retainer. Then I could re-swaged the horn rod tube to tighten the top part so it was no longer loose. I think I even used a little JB Weld just to make sure. Now everything is nice and quiet. That is what I found and how I fixed it. Chris W. |
