Removing Interior Panels?
Hello All,
I want to do some maintenance on the window cranks on my 31 Tudor and was wondering how to remove the interior panels covering the window cranks. Does anyone have a link as to how to go about this? I'd like to do some research before I attempt to remove them. I want to make sure I attack this correctly and not just Willy-Nilly. Regards Bill |

Re: Removing Interior Panels?
The panels are held on by metal clips. You should get a pair of pliers made for their removal. Auto parts stores usually carry them. It makes the job really simple.

Re: Removing Interior Panels?
I once had a 1930 tudor and if it is the front door panels there are metal spring clips which hold them to the door frame, you need to gently get between the door frame and the panel to pry off. If it is the rear windows the panels are nailed to a wooden frame and for those again you have to gently find the places where the panel is nailed and pry it off. This may be risky on original or older upholstered panels because the panel itself may have dried out and break when you try to remove it. Be careful.

Re: Removing Interior Panels?
Here is a tool I have used on every car I owned.
Slides under cardboard panel and UNDER the clip to grip clip, so less chance of damage. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...kswagen/beetle Last edited by Benson; 04-19-2018 at 06:01 PM. |

Re: Removing Interior Panels?
I got a set of 5 at Harbor Freight (part #99739 - Upholstery and Trim Tool) for about $15. I have removed the door panels on my coupe to work on the window cranks using these tools. They work well for me and don't cost a fortune for something I will only use occasionally. The tool mentioned above by Benson will probably work well also. You just need a tool to gently pry the clips out of their holes.

Quote:
To remove the window crank, push in on the interior trim panel. There is a spring behind the trim panel that keeps it pushed against the crank. Pushing in on the trim panel will allow you to remove the small pin that pins the window crank to the window regulator drive. |
