I don't remember who built the engine, but it was installed in the Bob Estes Spl. and entered in the 1951 Indy 500.

I'm probably wrong here but I'm a little skeptical if this is a real working engine. Again, I could be wrong.

It's certainly pretty neat. I love the ingenuity that went in to this in an attempt to keep the flathead competitive. Certainly a pretty well thought out design.

I would love to see the bottom end of this motor. I would assume it's beefed up a bit.

A guy in my neighborhood has two of them, at least he had two, I know he has one, for sure, in a 32 tudor Ford. It doesn't have manifolds on it and really up wakes everybody when he starts it every once in a while.

Can you imagine the torque on the drive ( where dist used to be end of cam shaft) to turn the dual camshafts , with valve springs etc................................

By the way the guy down the street from me Steve Farkley makes a overhead cam set up for a flathead. Want to see some crazy flathead stuff , check out his website

believe the motor in question was built by joe davis in the late 40's. 4 sets are extant out of 10 originally machined. speedway has one in their museum and had it on display at the ambr show 2 weeks ago in pomona.

Interesting to see the Lucas commercial distributor bolted on the front. Note slotted mounting holes. Mech advance only, no vac brake.

Looks like an early flathead ohv conversion, maybe Lee Tornado?
