Front spring covers (remove)??
I would like to take out a couple of leaves in a 40 n.o.s. front spring with the covers on. Has anyone removed the covers without cutting with a snips? Kube where are you. Anyone?

Re: Front spring covers (remove)??
If possible, buy a used uncovered 40 spring and remove the leaves.
Or, buy one (#2040) from Posie's. It would be a shame to destroy a NOS 40 covered front spring. Last edited by 19Fordy; 10-18-2013 at 04:51 PM. |

Re: Front spring covers (remove)??
19fordy: are you saying they can not come off and be re-used again? I want to make a 12 leave to a 10 or 11. The n.o.s. spring is 01A-5310F and in very nice shape. They must come off somehow. In the green book the 12 leave spring has the same leaves as the the 10 or 11 leave spring just remove a certain one. Thanks

I use a stiff putty knife, 1" blade, and work slow. Once you start this, you'll get the hang of it rather quickly. Now, installing them? Two problems. One, they will no longer fit you springs once you remove a leaf or two and two, you need to flatten the spring assembly to install the covers. This requires a special fixture. Are you wanting to remove leaves to lower the car or does the spring you acquired have too many leaves for your application?
