Seems nicely done. Doubt its factory - although I have seen some braze repairs done on machine castings which would have had to have been factory.

Paint it up - use it. Part of history now.

I didn't even notice it until I blasted it. Part of an accident you think? Needs to be grinded and filed a bit in my opinion.

Yes, and pretty decent job as well. If it's straight, it's better than a solid one that looks like a re-straightened Top Raman Noodle.

I was under the idea that brazed parts don’t accept paint well?

Its all in the surface prep. Sharp grit, surface roughness profile and paint will be fine.

Or at least you won't have to worry about the part rusting underneath and the paint lifting?

Hopefully. Brazing has to be pretty old so hopefully they didn't braze over any rust (if they weren't an idiot). It is a nice bar all together - no pitting besides the spots where it bolts to the fenders and it is not bent (at least I can't tell). Follow up question - there is a small hole in the middle of the underside of the bar. Is this factory or was it drilled?

I often look at things like this from the point of view of "is it a safety related issue?" In this case I don't think so and if it breaks on a tour your could wire it up and get home. I would paint it and use it. Ed

.

If flux or fluxed brazing rods are used , there usually will be paint problems . If the part is ground down to clean metal with no flux used , the paint can hold up ok . I mostly avoid the use of brazing . I would have welded the part instead .
