Default Brake lights will not turn off 1935 Ford

After charging my battery in my 1935 ford this AM my brake lights stay on.

Any thoughts?

Where Is the brake light switch located?

Near the brake peddle on underside of car?

Sorry But I have bad back this weekend and cant crawl under.

Check your parking brake. Sometimes if I pull my parking brake too hard my brake light comes on.

Jack, a little off the subject but I too have a bad back. This past June I had a lift installed in my shop for $2,000. If you can afford one buy it.

I believe the switch is on the brake pedal assy. and may just need a little oiling. It is a spring loaded pin in the switch which when the pedal is pushed the pin inside the switch and follows the pedal down. You could try tapping the brake pedal several times until it returns (Maybe) but would be worth a try until youn can get at it ro see if sticking is the problem. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps.

I believe you will find a mechanical switch bolted to the floor. It is situated so when the brake pedal is depressed a lever will "make" the switch and complete the circuit. The switch probably failed or stuck closed.

See if you have a weak old brake pedal return spring.
I just had that problem with our 47 Merc.
Good luck

If it's the same as a truck, my brake switch is mounted on the drivers side of the transmission. It is larger than you might expect,\and looks like a little motor, with an actuating rod through the middle. about anything could stick in that setup, mine was so covered in grease that I couldn't find the wire nuts at first.

yes it is under the car where the peddle assembly is mounted, once you are there it is hard to mistake. Mine was giving me some problems once sticking on. Took it off and cleaned it in parts cleaner and it has been working fine. there was a thick build up of oil and dirt on it.

Jack99-

I have had the same problem with the brake lights as you are experiencing. Note the picture. The two electrical wires are connecting to the brake light switch. At first glance the switch seems like it would be difficult to get at but in reality it is easily accessible from below. As I recall, the switch has two elongated mounting holes that allow for adjustment with the brake pedal arm. This is probably what needs to be adjusted.

Hope this helps.
