Hate to start this discussion
This question always seems to get some criticism, so I hesitate to throw it out there. However it's difficult to find information on this model in order to form an opinion.
In general terms what would be the current value of an original 1932 Cabriolet that's 90% complete less the engine and transmission? A friend that I've had for several years recently passed and his family wants me to sell a few vehicles for them. I helped my friend over the years sell some of his unwanted parts and a couple of cars. He had an original 32 Cabriolet waiting to be restored. I'll get some pictures and information this weekend hopefully. I know prices for the 32 are all over the place and some people will pay out of emotional attachment rather than rational common sense. Advice appreciated. |

Re: Hate to start this discussion
Condition and completeness will dictate the price. If a potential buyer is lookiing for a restoration candidate, the missing enigine is an obvious minus as would be the transmission (or at least the original case) and engine splash pans. Other big minusses would be missing door window trim moldings, top irons, seat frame, door window frames and windshield frame

Re: Hate to start this discussion
Without seeing pictures of the car - such that we can see everything that is on it, versus missing, really hard to form any opinion. We've all seen cars in various states of "originality", so it really matters (especially with a Cabriolet - they're not that many of them out there). I have a 32 Cabriolet - so I'm very versed in all the pieces/parts related to them. If you have pictures, go ahead and post them here - with maybe a written list of the "good, bad and ugly". Also, feel free to PM me.
BTW: When I bought mine . . . it was because of a newly created 'emotional attachment'! LOL |

Re: Hate to start this discussion
Take an inventory of what's there and pictures. To me cabriolets are expensive to restore and in the end-worth it?
That one on EBAY is the same as the one in Hemmings $68,900.One just listed in FB classifieds for $70K.Its probably the same one as is on EBAY. Its not even correct. Not correct distributor,no ashtrays,no engine splash pans and hydraulic brakes from what I could see from the pics posted. It does present well tho. Re: Hate to start this discussion
So after visiting with the family it turns out they do not want to sell the Cabriolet, but do want to sell a 32 Fordor Sedan. Now some input on the value of the Fordor would be helpful. I took some photos of the Cabriolet for the heck of it. Here are those pictures.

Re: Hate to start this discussion
Are they going to restore the Cabriolet or is it just going to sit there and deteriorate like so many cars that are Not For Sale?
If, they are going to restore the car, that's great! If not it is a shame.

Re: Hate to start this discussion
Dollar to a doughnut the family will decide NOT to restore the car when they find out
the many costs involved. It will sit and rot away some more. Hope they "wake up" and realize it's not a gold nugget and sell it. |

Re: Hate to start this discussion
Looks like a patch panel on the left side, right side has a funny rust spot running down the quarter (roof leak ?)

Re: Hate to start this discussion
Just my 2cents. Anyone that buys this isn't going to look for an original motor. Maybe.... but that market is very very small. A flathead, yes. Maybe
Now, is it a cool car waiting for whatever. Yes. Things are only worth what someone will pay. Start high. Work yourself to what they will except. Very cool car. They aren't making anymore of them. If how it continues in it's life is important, you might have to work with someone that might not get you the best dollar but might restore it or respect the feeling or objective. Yep, it's always cheaper to buy a car restored then restore a car. Less you have a wheel barrel of money or time and know-how. Sometimes having a car linked to family is more important then cost too. . |
