Re: 1939 rear axel
You talking just the axle shaft?
If it helps at all, I'm pretty sure you can use 37-40, and possibly 41. You might be able to use 35-36, but not sure on that. Mart. |

Re: 1939 rear axel
Good news...I've got a NOS '39 axle.
Bad news...I can't access it for at least 3 years so that doesn't help at all. But here's an option... Try The Early Ford Store of CA out in San Dimas. Their website lists used axles available for most years. I've been to their store and they've got lots of good vintage stuff. They may be able to help. Here's their website home page: http://lbcunited.com/earlyford2/ Hope that helps... COE Dan |

Re: 1939 rear axel
Get a good thread chaser and clean up the threads on yours, unless they are really shot and cannot be saved.

Re: 1939 rear axel
Since you have to remove the old axle, why not build up the threaded area with weld, turn it down in a lathe and then rethread it. Worth a try.

Re: 1939 rear axel
I have some good used '39 axles if you are still looking for one. Send me a pm if you are interested.

Re: 1939 rear axel
I'd be careful with the repairs...re-threading is an option but you must be certain there is enough material there once completed.
Welding and re-threading is a better option but costly. You must be certain to find someone capable of tempering the axle once done. I really don't care if I sell an axle or not but feel replacement is the wisest option. |
