Default grungy carb

I have a grungy pot metal carb that obviously spent some time in the woods. Can I soak it in evaporust to clean it up?

I would soak it in mineral spirits for starters. Not sure what would happen with evaporust. It might eat up pot metal.

I would suggest acetone. Bit more aggressive than mineral spirits. I have had really good luck with it. 24 hour or more soak in closed container. After, of course, removing all bits.

I cleaned a couple of quadrajets in toilet bowl cleaner, you need the aggressive old stuff not the new weak stuff, but you have to be careful not to soak too long or your carb will disappear. If I can find an old bottle I’ll post the brand name.
BTW the carbs came out looking like new.

You don't want to dip it in anything that will dissolve the pot metal and cause the
moving parts to develop a loose fit.
