Default Found A Used 1940 Ford a Pickup Hood Ornament

A buddy of mine found one and sold it to me with the handle. But listen to this - the stamped in part number is a 01A number and that’s the prefix for a 40 Standard hood ornament. Fits perfect on the truck.

Anyone run into this before?

Tom, The passenger car (Ford V8, aka "standard") as well as the pickup truck utilized identical hood ornaments. The handles were different.

This is not correct. The 1940 standard and the 1940 pickup have a hood ornament that is nearly identical but the 1940 pickup hood ornament is about 1.5 inches longer down the front edge and has two screws to secure it near the bottom. I believe that Ford made them in the same mold but cut a piece off the bottom of those used on the 1940 Standards. I think that there is an 01C part number molded into the back of that lower edge used on the pickup and there is an 01A part number on the back side of the ornament. The pickup and standard car have different hood handles as you stated.

40Larry is correct.

Having restored a number of extremely high point Ford V8 models (aka "standard") as well as an extremely high point pickup, I should have known better. Sorry to have possibly misled you.

I think I may need to look in to some of those memory enhancement drugs

Yeah Mike, I don't trust my memory much. That is why I usually preface anything I write here with "I believe, or I think"!! We all could probably use memory enhancing drugs!

Heck, I've explained to my wife that if my memory were as good as it once was, I'd gain 20#. Why? I must make a dozen trips daily to and from the shop only to get there and wonder why I went.

I like to think that is God's way of making sure we get our daily exercise!

Gents, my question was more about the part and it’s age, not ours! Lol!

That being said, have any way of you run into what I came across? The 40 truck hood ornament is a very difficult item to find .....
