Steering Wheel Restoration
I have a very rough steering wheel to be restored/recast.
The ads for Quality Restorations and Koch's both look impressive. Has anyone out there used either one? Any recommendations? Thanks for your help. Bob |

Re: Steering Wheel Restoration
I have used http://www.ask.com/web?l=dis&o=13992...6D+automobilia Not cheap, but excellent quality. Makes sure your restore all you chrome plated pieces BEFORE you have the steering wheel recast as they are "custom fit" and have to shipped with your steering wheel core. Call and speak with whomever you choose BEFORE you commit. Make sure the wheel color is mixed with the resin and not painted on after wheel is cast.

Re: Steering Wheel Restoration
I read a post on one of the forums the other day regarding Koch's. I think it may have been Shoeboxford. The poster was very happy with the work that Koch's had done and thought that they were fairly reasonable. Hope you can find the posting and that it helps. . . Chuck

Re: Steering Wheel Restoration
I have restored several steering wheels myself. some with large chunks out of it. It is not all that hard, just time consuming sometimes. I use PC7 and elbow grease.

Re: Steering Wheel Restoration
Scott/Mn - were the wheels painted or the color mixed in the recast?

Re: Steering Wheel Restoration
Peter, I believe on the '36 banjo the wheel was recast in black but I painted it Benton gray to match my dashboard. The '34 wheel was in pretty good shape so it was repaired by Koch's and repainted semi gloss black, looks very authentic. Scott
