Default Gas cut off valve

Is the gas cut off valve suppose to have a spring in it. Charles

there is NO spring in any Model A gas shut off valve that I have ever seen.

On the early style shut off valves, there is a small spring under the brass screw-on cap.

My '28 A has a spring under the cap like Gary Karr says. If the inside is not scored can burnish the two mating surfaces of the cut off with tooth paste after draining the tank. Then clean the cutoff good with lacquer thinner to make sure no residue.
