1947 truck column lock removal
I’ve read all the threads I can find on the subject but none reference the exact drop I have. Tried to follow the general instructions hoping they would apply but it doesn’t seem to be working out. The lock mechanism will slide up and down but stops. What is holding this in? I drilled and pulled the only pin left on the backside and still no success. What am I missing here?

Re: 1947 truck column lock removal
The reason for wanting to remove the lock was to repair the switch mechanism. Looking at it again today I might be guilty of trying to remove the engine to change the plugs. The toggle was broken and only the stub was remaining. Looked at it again and determined I could probably repair it in place. I drilled out the broken stub and will try to find a way to replace the end of the toggle with something that looks acceptable.
Still really curious as to how this comes apart though. Thanks! Last edited by HWC; 08-09-2020 at 03:07 PM. Reason: Duplicate photos |

Re: 1947 truck column lock removal
the small pointy pin that goes into the switch has small splines, and is pressed in. i pull them by grabbing the pin with a good sharp vice grips, then tap on the vice grips with a small hammer. they come out pretty easy usually
