Default The Little Known Leach Automobile, with a Harry Miller Designed sohc-Six

The stylish Leach car was the brain child of Martin Andrew Leach, who had earlier run the Leach Motor Car Company,
a sales outlet in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He next went into the auto restyling and customizing business for the
elite Hollywood crowd for a year or so. This must have paid off as a bit later on, cowboy star Tom Mix (above) is seen
posing with a Leach that was built between 1919 and 1923.

Just below is the Harry Miller designed sohc-six and below that film star Gloria Swanson posing with one of the cars
which you can learn more about in a very detailed post on The Old Motor.

Hello T-head,

Thanks for this information. Can't remember ever hearing about the Leach Car. I'm going to look for more info about it since my last name is Leach. It must not be my family line or if any of the older folks ever mentioned it I might not have paid attention.

No of course not, but many Ford Barn members seem to enjoy my posts so I put it on here, as it is a quite interesting car. If anyone finds it objectionable I will remove it.

Fascinating. I wonder if any still exist. Thanks for posting this.

I suppose if somebody was adamant about keeping it all in the (Model A) family, then he/she should figure out not to click on something that says
"The Little Known Leach Automobile, with a Harry Miller Designed sohc-Six."

Tom Mix's daughter ended up living here in NZ and married a Mr Gunn.
Her married name was Tommy Gunn! This is for real

Nice post t-head. I had seen other other pictures of Tom Mix with a sporty Duesenberg, we was a top film star of the 20's.

You are a little new here to be criticizing the way things are done. Did this really offend you? Some of us enjoy the posts, including me!

Below is another photo of an original Leach touring car a reader sent in.

T-head, I really enjoy reading your posts, whether or not they are about the Model A. Please keep them coming!! What amazes me most is how sophisticated the engineering and technology was back in the day, long before computer-assisted design and manufacutring and before synthetic materials! An age when brains and sweat and American craftsmanship mattered!

Luckyal, you should follow your own advice from a previous post "I am a Newbie to the site but not to the hobby ! I may be out of place and I am sure I will be told so, but what about this ?" yes, you are out of place!

If
you respond, please use you real name and what part of world you reside in, quit hiding behind a false name, be a man......

Mr. Parker I may be a newbie but I won't be intimidated by a big mouth. This post had nothing to do with you so as I said before mind your own business. I have read many of your posts and you seem to have a lot to say about nothing with very little knowledge. You talk for the sake of being heard ! And for your information where i LIVE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS ALSO, AS YOU SEEM TO HAVE TROUBLE MINDING YOUR OWN BUSINESS !

Did a quick search on wikipedia, not that it is the final authority, but it said there were only 250 Leach cars made in total between 1919 and 1924. It would be a rare car today.

Luckyal;

For your information Jim Parker is very knowledgeable about Model A's. He is a recognized expert on brakes and does a lot of work for Model Aer's on brakes - along with other things as well. His posts are well received and of value here on Fordbarn.

Would all the children please exit stage left! Be decent! Anyway, interesting car. The crossection of the motor is interesting... 6 cylinder, counterbalanced crank, overhead cam, look at how the fan is run... I'd love to hear it run, probably sound like a well oiled sewing machine.
