Default 1936 Dual Pulley water pump parts

I have 2 leaking water pumps off a 1936 1 1/2 ton. I’ve gotten them disassembled but have not been able to find new seals or a rebuild kit anywhere. Anyone know of a source for something like this?

Also I am considering replacing the pumps with a car or small truck pump as long as the pulleys will still align properly.

Thanks for any help

Try Skip Heaney,
http://www.fordcollector.com/water_pumps.htm
He rebuilt a pair of dual pulley wps for me last year and thought he did a good job. Not sure if he sells parts only but he’s very knowledgeable and seems like a decent guy. probably at least worth talking to.

There are four versions of dual pulley water pumps for 1935 and 1936 1-1/2 ton trucks. Yours appear to be the final version with sealed bearings (Part Nos. 51-8501/2-D2). The reason I bring this up is that if you want to rebuild your pumps you need to be sure you get the correct impellers and matching shafts. The parts from the cgfordparts listing don't look right to me. All of the water pump impellers and shafts look kind of the same until you lay them side by side and compare to the ones from your truck.

I think the suggestion by the others to contact Skip Haney is a good one. If he can rebuild them correctly he will. If not, he can explain the situation to you. I've had Skip rebuilt two sets of single sheeve water pulleys for my 1935 1-1/2 ton truck. I really don't know about the availability of parts to rebuild your pumps but Skip will.

Standard 1936 single sheeve water pulleys will work fine on your truck if you only want to run with one fan belt. Your truck should have dual sheeve pulleys on the generator and crank too, and if so, I'd suggest sticking with the dual sheeve water pump pulleys if for no other reason it looks cool.

I can confirm the cgfordparts kit would not work for this style pump, I ordered a similar one before knowing what I had.

I will probably go with the single pulley style in that case. I agree the dual belt setup is cool but I already have a single pulley on the alternator I installed.

Thanks for the info on these, there isn’t much out there that’s easy to find.

Putting single sheeve pulleys on your truck is totally appropriate as that was the "standard" offering (just in case anyone pulls your chain about not having dual pulley water pumps). If your truck originally came with dual pulleys all around, it likely has the optional heavy duty radiator. Having that radiator helps cooling. You can check by counting the rows of tubes. The standard radiator has three rows of tubes and the heavy duty radiator has four rows of tubes. It doesn't really matter unless your truck regularly overheads.

BTW, what type of 1936 1-1/2 ton truck do you have? Any chance of sharing a picture?

I tried to do my own, broke several pieces. I watched Skip do mine, well worth it.

That’s interesting about the radiator I will have to count them next time. It is a stake bed, Model 51 I believe.

Nice truck, thanks for posting the picture. Looks like a 131-1/2" wheelbase.
I've attached a table listing the four radiators used in Model 51 trucks. Not that it really matters, just thought you might be interested.

NSK885586 water pump shaft and bearings. Available at Motion Industries, or a bearing supply house. Also on Amazon.

Just to confirm your suspicion, it's a Model 51 truck. Can't tell if the bed is original or not but otherwise it looks like a fine survivor.

I need a pair of pumps rebuilt for my 37/38 engine with the double pulleys. Any suggestions for a kit to rebuild them? Thank you Jared
