Success with model B engine !
Finally it appears that my 33 Tudor model B engine is fixed and the terrible ongoing oil leak from rear main is over. My recent post has all photos and technical information about the job to do new babbits and correct the faulty clearances that were producing the oil leak. You may find them at
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177850 The final problem after testing the engine was a quick overheating and a loud "bang" explosion about 1.5 seconds after turning the engine off. The model A owners quickly picked up that the issue was a very retarded timing. I was able to correct it this week essentially playing by ear. Although I have a timing light I could not use it because have no reference of crankshaft degrees and the like on my motor. These 2 videos show what I believe is a very smooth running engine with no oil leaks. I hope you agree I also have a 2nd model B engine done entirely by James Rogers, in NC. He is a superb rebuilder well known here at the FordBarn. The engine is now in a ship somewhere in the Caribbean heading South and scheduled to arrive in March. Great to have a back up motor, just in case. Finally I can continue putting the car together and hopefully driving it in a few months. Many of you have provided generous advise over the last years as I struggled with this problem. To all of you a big THANK YOU and to all Barners I wish a happy motoring 2016! Manuel |
