So then the 7/16 was an aftermarket repro provided just to use a commonly available socket but not original. Once again I have to ask though, was the 13/32 gav ever used on any other carb, aftermarket or otherwise?

Just got your letter today smog and will have my response in the mail first thing monday morning, lol.

Bratton's catalog lists both 7/16 and 13/32.
1928 to Sept. 4, 1930 as 7/16.
Sept. 4 1930 to 1931 as 13/32

I didn't find anything in the Judging Standards.

Is Bratton offering the 7/16 GAV as a common wrench size replacement? Bill

Always in a quest to learn more about my '30 Town Sedan (and I was plain ass curious...) I just went out and measured my Zenith and it is indeed .438" (7/16").

I have no history of the carb, maybe it was "Molested".

If I lived closer to the Henry Ford Museum I'd be over at the Benson Ford Research Center looking at the GAV blueprint.

At any rate, the 7/16" deep socket is a common part, so all we need are a bunch of 13/32" quality sockets.

I filed out a 10 mm Snap On 6 point box wrench about 10 years ago, and that works fine, but a 6 point socket would be even better.

I use an oddball offshore 11mm 6 point deep socket seems to fit well, sometimes working on my wife's GM nothing fits well!

I've only worked on my own carbs, but did have one with a 7/16" GAV. Now I wish I'd have paid more attention to the carb details to maybe put a date to it. Of course it could have been an old repro part also.

I can imagine a cheapy 11mm would fit. There is only .005" difference between 11mm and 7/16".

Stupid question here since I am just a novice with regard to model A's and merely making a socket which a whole lot of people seem to want, but..........

If Zenith was making these carbs for Ford or whatever, are there any records from, or a way to find records from, the Zenith company to determine exactly what they were supplying to Ford Motor Company?

Again, not trying to make a mess out of this, but I have become more and more curious about the real deal regarding this 13/32 gav.

I kinda liked forever4's thing about drawing correction or whatever. I know in those days as well, many manufacturers were trying to make things that could only be serviced by the dealers with the correct tools. This is still common practice today as a matter of fact.

In any event, once again I am not trying to screw this all up, but I really am curious as to what the real truth is behind the 13/32 gav.

And if I am not mistaken, somewhere I saw where a 13/32" 12 point wrench was actually included in a tool kit supplied with certain model A's or whatever.

Sorry, forgot about that till just now.

Hopefully Bud doesn't get upset with me but I just wanted to post the pm he sent me earlier today after he received his socket.

Per BudP
"Every person has ability of some kind. Fewer people have a commitment to quality. Fewer still are those who combine their talent with a commitment to quality. The fortunate ones in the last catagory can show their talent and commitment in a single product. Your socket is such a herald of your abilities and commitments. Thanks!"

Sorry if I shouldn't have posted this Bud, but I appreciated your comments, and making guys like yourself and others on here happy with these sockets is what I have been working toward. My goal has been to exceed expectations, and I intend to continue to do so.

I haven't been contacted either. But, since I know I am on the list, I'm happy. When it happens, it happens.
