Default Not model a, but a good shot!

So this is grandpas original 1951 G that he bought new. He had the choice to go to prom or get a new tractor! It has been worked AND taken care of its whole life. Yesterday we were stacking hay in the barn and could not help myself, the light snow fall was perfect! I can't wait until I can snap one with my gloss black AA!

I have Dad's 1973 John Deere 110 lawn tractor with the 10HP Kohler engine.

Dad bought it in 1973 when I went away to college.

"Dad - why didn't you buy this when I was here."

"Well, I had you to use the hand mower - that's why."

Still starts easily - burns a little oil - but gets the lawn done in less than an hour.

I now have a spare transaxle I bought on Ebay for $75 delivered. Someday I'll put it in and get back that 1st gear that went out.

John, unless you grandpa would have married his prom date, he made the better choice.

Joe, I have the earliest John Deere 110 with the 7 horse Kohler. When I bought it about 20 years ago the tranny was also bad. If you study the input and output shafts of the tranny, it would be like taking a Model A tranny and mounting a V belt pulley to the end of the input shaft with no bearing support on the shaft end. The Model A has support with the crankshaft bearing, so the input shaft can't flop sideways. The 110 failed in this respect, so the input shaft is the weak point. I don't work my 110 hard. It's more show and tell. I use my original Cub Cadet with a snow plow to keep the snow plowed away from the Model A garage and driveway.

The John Deere G (and the Farmall M) were considered pretty good sized tractors in their day. Look at the monsters they're driving now!!

Beautiful. I brought a 1940 John Deere "C" out from Oklahoma, about 10 years ago, and gave it to Forrest Hills Farm in San Ramon, to add to their tractor collection. It still stands there as an invitation to come in and see their restored collection of tractors. It ran real well after a couple of guys worked on the timing, but sadly the museum didn't see fit to provide any protection from the weather, so it is sitting out rusting away as so many do under a shade tree on the "back forty." I Drove a Farmall H as a kid cutting a thousand acres of hay in Idaho. $1.00 an hour and found. The good old days.

I show this old girl at our show in town. We do tractor games with it, and this year I won on the balance beam, 14 seconds

On my Cousin's farm, he had a 1936 B JD, bought new in 36 for $906.50 with a small 3 bottom 12" plow and a cultivator. It had spoke wheels and rubber tires. President Roosevelt said "Go out and buy something, get the economy moving again!" So When his old Fordson caught fire and burned a couple of fields, He got the JD. The Fordson caught fire because the exhaust ran horiziontally under the tractor and the dust from his bailing machine was allowed to gather on the hot exhaust. This set the fields on fire. He was sold on the JD's vertical exhaust after that. We sold his two JDs in 1989, The B and a 600 (IIRC) still running and working
