Default Ford''s contribution to off-roading 1917

Very versatile Model T Ford. Is this where Caterpillar got their idea from?

Not where Caterpillar got it's idea.
There were track vehicles such as tanks and trucks used during WW1.
Track vehicles were used a few years earlier than 1917.
Leonardo Da Vinci created a tractor/tank.

The first tractor(wheeled) was invented during the mid 1800's and the tracked vehicles soon followed.
