Default High Compression Head

Having just received a HC head I was wondering if anyone has had to have their new head resurfaced? How could I check it to make sure it was ground flat?
Thanks for your time.

A precision machinist ruler long enough to cover the full length of the head, and a set of feeler gauges will tell you if it is flat. Check it one way, then flip the ruler over (one edge to the other) as a check on the straightness of the ruler. The head and block should be within .006" of perfectly flat.

If the gasket surfaces are perfecly clean, you could slip the head in place & see what gap you have with a feeler guage This would not tell you if its the head or block that is out of spec, but if it is out it would most likely be the head.
