Default engine number

just got my "good used" A engine home ,,,,,rubbed the paint off to find the engine number to find *DMV 9097-* bugger cant trace the year now ,appears to have been stamped long ago ,engine was grey color has had quick spray of green over this ,going to drop the sump shortly to see how much metal is on the tray and see if it was waste of cash,,,was in a 30 coupe from Calif.....

just pulled the sump ,,no sign of any metal in the tray cups ,oil was a bit lumpy and a bit of sludge residue in trays ,crank weights stamped 030 ,rods have babbit between rod and crank,,started it before removing from chassis last week it hadnt ran in 12 months but fired and ran great with no hint of clunks or rattles ,happy so far for $400 engine ,,dont think its ran much in 20 years or had oil change ,fingers crossed ,
