Default What year is this Gearbox?

i have a Ford gearbox with the serial #: *18-I606098*.
I have Mac van Pelt's excellent guide for Ford gearboxes but can't find this number configuration in any of his ID tables. What am I missing? Anybody out there know what year this is?

JR48,
I believe it's a 1935 trans. The # being a 1935 serial number. Can also be found on Van Pelts web site.

Ford Used the letter I as a #1 character and the 9 was also a special character with an odd shape . I think F was the only letter character that was added to denote right hand drive on vehicles so equipped if I remember correctly. Ford did this to better tell if numbers were in fact Ford Motor ID numbers for theft prevention I assume.

I can't speak to Mac VP's information, but in the Early Ford V-8 Club's 1935-36 Ford Book, production serial numbers for 1935 start with 18-1234357 and end with 18-2207110, so according to that info your transmission was used in production of a '35 vehicle. Further, it states that your number is in the range of serial numbers used in March of 1935. This also happens to be the case for a frame I have with a serial number that's pretty close to yours. In the picture posted you will see that the letter "I" has been used for the number "1" as rotorwrench had mentioned. I have covered the last two digits in the serial number to prevent someone else from possibly using this same number.
