Default Engine rebuilders

I am in the market to have my engine rebuilt. I have been looking at two places, Schwalms and H and H. If anyone has any feedback on either of these I would be happy to hear it. If there is something you are not comfortable posting you could send me an email at [email protected]

Thank Ford Barn and happy "A"ing.

I had mine done by Schwalm's in March and I'm just getting to installing it back in the tudor. They did everything they said they would. I drove 3 1/2 hours to deliver it and picked it up 3 weeks later. Nice people.

I had James Rogers rebuild 2 motors for me. I am happy with one and the other one is sitting waiting for my next project. You may want to look at some recent posts by him. He is moving his shop a few miles down the road to make it more accessible. I do not know his timing to resume work.

You are about as far away from H&H as you can physically get already, & I'd keep it that way.

Schwalms does a good job, but you pay for it. Bert's in Colo. will do a motor. James Rodgers in NC, Hercules Welding in Palmyra NJ, A & I in Souderton, Pa and many lesser known, more local builders will do a good job. The 800 lbs gorilla of mod.A motors is pouring the bearings. Any fool can install rings and lap valves. But the bearings takes real skill. The same goes for grinding valve seats identifying and repairing possible cracks in the block.

I have difficulty getting results searching for H&H here and on HAMB. You can use GOOGLE to find the posts. Search GOOGLE using "H&H Site fordbarn.com" and "H&H on HAMB". You will find a lot of interesting posts.

I had James Rogers rebuild two of my engines. I have one in and running, and am very happy with the power. His cost is reasonable for what he does for you. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with James!

I will add that J&M http://jandm-machine.com/ does outstanding work. Great modern shop that are not limited to Model A. They do any antique engine, at top quality. The price was competitive, I received email photos along the way. The engine runs great, plenty of power. You are close enough to drive it there. I recommend them highly.
