Default Anyone still putting custom paint into aerosol cans

*************SOLVED*************

Does anyone know of a company that still puts whatever paint code you need into an aerosol can? I need some to touch-up some areas.

I've used a company called Automotive Touchup before for my 67 Firebird and my daughters Hyundai, but they said they don't have my color Sherwood Green (PPG 41279) in their system.

There has to be others out there I'm sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I believe any good stand-alone paint store can mix your color and load aerosol cans. The old gas is no longer available, but otherwise...

There is an easily available inexpensive product named Preval Amazing Paint System that is easily looked up online. Wal Mart and Home Depot both list them for sale and you would have no problem finding them on eBay or I suspect Amazon as well as local paint stores. I bought several of them from the automotive paint store that I buy Nason and DuPont products from. Basically you are making your own equivalent of a cleanable reusable aerosol spray can that you can easily fill using whatever automotive paint you are using without having to go have an aerosol can filled.

I've done as Alan described. A nothing special automotive paint store handled it without issue.

"oldandtired" - That looks like an ideal solution. From your post, it seems that you have purchased and used them in the past. Would you recommend them and what is your overall opinion, if you don't mind.

Thanks guys. I just tried an auto paint supply store that said the can put it in a aerosol for me.
The problem seems to be they don't seem to have this color in their system. I gave them the PPG paint code and then tried the Dupont number from this site:

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...erwood%20Green

Any ideas?

Get that setup "old andtired" mentioned. It sounds like you can get what you want from the proper dealer and it wll spray it. It's not that expensive; less than $10 at a couple of places. Even I could afford to taker a chance at that price.

I went into our local OReilly parts store with the glove box door from my 34. The inside of the door was like new. They took some kind of picture and came up with a formula. In about 15 minutes I had a spray can that I was very pleased with.

The codes are going to be for old paint systems that are no longer produced or that they don't stock. You're likely going to need to have them mix a custom color to match, which when accounting for 67 years of aging is the right thing to do anyway.

The Preval sprayers work well for small parts; I used them a lot on aircraft parts that needed to be shot with catalyzed enamel and etc. Just be aware that you'll probably have to thin the paint more than you would for a gravity feed spray gun and that the pattern they produce is like one from a rattle can...

I used this company www.paintscratch.com for a 1995 paint color and it was right on. I don't know how far back they go.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to take my fender skirts to be matched. They still look great. Just trying to get something to touch up door jams mainly.

My local NAPA had custom aerosol paint for $28 a couple years back. As it isn't a NAPA catalog item, I would have to make a phone call to determine current details. Their paint chips covered 1951 and newer which was a whale lot of chip books to go through.

I would be happy to make that call for you should you want me to.

Just checked with two O'Reilly's stores and none do that in Colorado. Must be a regional thing.

They quoted me $99.96 for a quart of Acrylic Enamel - 5 to 6 days, Yosemite Yellow - for my 53' Merc.

Nice to deal with.
