New car warranty in 1930?

Where there factory warranties when our cars were new?

well the Service Letters talk about various components, both factory-made and outside manufacturers, of having like a warranty period of several months, I think three months. Other than that I've never seen a mention of a formal detailed warranty. My guess would be that the cars were so simple and well-made that no one thought in those terms and if individual parts proved to have a design flaw, the Company was very liberal in substituting the new part either free or at minimal cost. The materials we see seem to indicate that insufficient lubrication was the biggest cause of repairs.

It was viewed somewhat different in that era. The warranty was ''Ford Service'' which was a world famous and efficient service set up from the early Model T days. Genuine Ford Parts & qualified mechanics could quickly get your Ford back on the road anywhere in the world. It would have influenced buyers of a low cost car as parts availability could be a problem for some cars.

No such thing a ''free servicing for 100,000 kms'' then ; cars did very low mileages in the old days.

UK, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany all had written guarantees or warranties that came with the Model A when sold new there. How do I know: I have several of the original documents in my collection.

In my AACA magazine about 3-4 years ago there was articles with 30-35 make cars and many had 100,000 mile warranties. I need to see if I can find them , my son carried some to school to show his teacher. The teacher was telling his class that new cars were going to be electric . He told the teacher, electric cars have been around since the early days of automobiles and she told him he was very wrong. 90 days parts and 1500 miles labor if I'm reading it right. That's not very long.

I think I read somewhere that a lot of other countries had mandated warranties on a lot of big ticket items.
