GOOGLE the PN and you will find suppliers and maybe can contact them for exact measurements.

What are you working on?

Could just flip that existing ring gear over IF the other side is not worn and tac weld it.

I have not been able to find that ring gear supplier information that I was looking for BUT I will keep looking.

The "air-cooled" Ford-O-Matic converter has the ring gear spot welded onto the converter front plate.
I personally would not try to burn a ring gear off a converter front plate. If you are thinking of doing that, measure the I.D. of the Ford-o-matic ring gear and compare that with the O.D. of your manual transmission flywheel first to see if it would fit.

No I was not going to try that, you had brought up the Ford-o-matic rear thing and was thinking that was what you were saying. The trans in the car now is a Ford-o-matic but it has the water cooled converter.

Yes, I allways have that option but I would like to get a new gear, not in a hurry, the Ford-o matic is still working. I'm in the collecting parts stage now.

WHAT I DID FIND!! I found a company called Ring gears are us and they list a Ford gear that fits a Customline w/6 cyl, 1955- 1964 V8, F100 w/272, F250 w/292, F500 w/312 and "trucks" w/223 and that gear has a I.D. of 341. Now I guess that measurment is metric and 341mm = 13.425". If all of that is true the gear will only have to expand .052 to fit over the flywheel. The problem is that the Customline is a car right? and other f100's gears that I have found have a I.D. of 13.352" NOT 13.425" SO who is right? I sent them an e-mail.

I found this out from a post on the H.A.M.B. so I will post it up here just for info.

There is only one crankshaft listed for 1958-62 292 engines in my 1965 Motors Flat Rate & Parts Manual. It is B9TE6303-A. There are two flywheel and ring gear listings for 292s with standard transmissions. One is 1958-59 B4A-6375-C and the second is 1960-62 B4A-6375B. I would guess that it may be a weight or diameter difference but I am unaware of any other differences. Truck blocks are desirable for rebuilds for cars as they are a stronger casting. They are considered a direct replacement.

Question Re: Y block flywheel ring gear

Did you ever check into NOS EAA 6384-A?

That was the STD RG for the period vehicle you are working on.

I believe EEA is the prefix for the 215 6 cyl engine. Maybe the ring gear was shared with the 6 and Y-Block V8's ?

13.47 x Pi= 42.30 inch circumference. .125 dived by 42.30 = .0026. Which means your ring gear has to expand 2.6 % overall when heated.

On manuals, often the ring can be flipped over if one side has bad teeth. I did this with my car, it takes a torch and a little patience.

For replacement rings, look at Pioneer. They have made the most rings I have seen in parts stores.

Look closely at the teeth. Most had a bevel milled into the teeth on the engagement side while the opposite side was flat. if you flip the gear over you may get grinding as the starter Bendix gear tries to mesh.

Mine had the bevel on both sides, but it wouldn't be hard to add one if I needed to.

I only ever tried to flip one, on a 428 and there was enough bevel on the gear that it wouldn't let the starter drive disengage when the engine started.
after that, I always just bought a new one. They are cheap.
