This is for a '56 Ford. Mercs would be the same. I hope he wants it for display only, the damn things are dangerous.

I have used those jacks to change tires and to jack up cars to put jack stands under the car, and they ARE VERY Dangerous and you really have to watch your self when using them. I don't think I was able to afford a floor jack until I was in my mid 20's or early 30's. even then I did not have a garage to work in, and the wheels would sink in the asphalt. the land-lord hated me. I learned to use a piece of plywood.

I agree with the picture Dobie Gillis posted. I used to have a '55 Mercury, and the jack looked the same.

Yeah, those things work until they don't. Just like a pit bull is gentle, until it isn't!

The one in my 55 is for display only,I have a tripod jack I use if needed on the road, the original was thrown out when the car was new due to it not working.

Agree with all the danger warnings. My uncle had a 36 Ford (I believe) and he was using a bumper jack. He spent the rest of his years with only one knee cap........

There was a time that all I ever had were bumper jacks and scissor jacks. I never had a problem or incident with them. I just had to be careful and only used them for what they were intended for, changing a tire.

Same here (well usually). I remember changing a z bar in a 54 Ford and I think I only used a bumper jack. Was a teenager then, long time ago.
