12 volt switch on 6 volts
Probably a dumb question but, Is it okay to use a 12 volt toggle switch with a 6 volt system? Thanks Ron

Re: 12 volt switch on 6 volts
Usually it would be, but check the rating of the switch. A 6 volt circuit needs twice the amps to do the same work as a 12 volt circuit, and in certain circumstances, that may be a problem. Every switch I have ever seen has a rating, either amps or watts that should be somewhere on the switch which will allow you to determine if it is adequate for your purpose.
On a practical basis, you will probably never run into this problem in real life, because most switches are very robust. |

Denny: Except some of the brand new switches from NAPA, I've gotten some real trash lately. I'm still a NAPA man, but I now look for better switches.

Re: 12 volt switch on 6 volts
First you have to figure the amp load you require. I think we need more info like whats
it for, a tractor trailer or car. So maybe Google heavy duty toggle switch, truck bus marine they are out there. |

Re: 12 volt switch on 6 volts
Another thing to consider when selecting a switch for a particular application is the type of voltage your dealing with. Such as....is the switch you plan to use rated for AC Only, or is it rated for AC/DC? A switch rated for AC Only may not do well at all when used on DC. Just something to keep in mind.
