Angry Fake, Phony, and False

OK, sorry if this seems a bit gruff and I really don't know if there is a place to post thieves that misrepresent themselves when selling items. Beware of purchasing anything from "mar4i7". He sold me a Zenith B Carb for $150 and it appears he took the money and ran. Seemed legit with initial comms, but once he received the money, won't reply to any of my queries.

Anyone else ever have similar problems with this character or other sellers? This was my first time buying from someone on Ford Barn, so maybe first-timers luck!

So

You have been on here a couple years and have posted several times.

The Zenith B Carburetor that you paid $150 for ….
What is the fair market value of that ?

How many posts does he have? That’s often a key indicator. I also look at previous posts to see what involvement they have on the site.

Im saddened if thats the case, especially on here.

Here's a few stratigies I gemerally use when buying parts etc, especially if I have any doubt at all. It might help others.

1) Is the price a little too good to be true?
2) Do a reverse search on google images
3) Review the seller's profile, post count etc.
4) Request a proof of life live video chat with the seller and part.
5) Only pay with paypal and NEVER friends and family, if need be I'll pay the paypal premium. If they want something else I walk away. It may mean I dont get to buy everything I want but saves me getting ripped off again.

That seems to weed out scammers.

Good luck getting this sorted.

If it doesn’t belong let Ryan delete it!!
Transaction looks fishy to me and buyer can get seller to contact.
So where’s he going to turn next?

You want to see every dispute aired
here on the forum ?

Neither you or me or anyone else knows what
exactly is going on here - look at the images
I posted - the Seller does not appear to be
on here to do what the Buyer is alleging
( in my opinion ).

This thread needs to be deleted.

And that is what the OP should have done to resolve this.
If there is a dispute between a Buyer & Seller arising
from a transaction originating on this forum - then it
should be reported to a forum moderator.

Calling someone

“ Fake, Phony, and False “ unless be have a Court Judgement
declaring it to be so - is slanderous and libelous.

I for one appreciate a heads up on those that take your money and run. I can't think of a better label that fraud, cheat, thief.

I would hardly call this a buyer/seller dispute. This is a buyer that did not receive what he paid for.

I would never consider doing business with someone that defends the thief and turns the victim into the aggressor who called the thief a thief.

Lots of good ideas on how to avoid this kind of problem

If this is a problem of slow delivery or return of buyers money the problem is solved and sellers reputation restored.

2 sides to every story. Always need to be carefull when posting want ads. I have bought a lot of car parts over the net and am happy to say I have never been ripped off. I only by from people I 'know' though.
TV, looks like it was posted 11/18 or 11/19 I can hardly read the date.
OP, More details may be needed before you call someone out. How long have you been waiting? Same ole story but mail is slow. I know I am guilty of delayed shipping on some stuff I sell but I do let the buyer know I am running behind, maybe thats the case.
Hope it works out for you.

some time makes sense.

expecting next day air isnt happening.........

often retired people sit around expecting everything to be instant and doesnt usually work that way.

I agree, I very rarely do friends and family. worth the 3% fee to know I have recourse, esp if the expenditure is considerable.

Not sure I understand “do the math” but do live under a rock!
Not real sure of the time line in all this and noted that is important.
However, after payment, the seller not communicating is a problem.
Done with this tread…worn it out!

There is a reason Ryan set the classifieds up, so new accounts need to have 10 post before messages can be sent or received, unless the scammer wants to get to the 10 post rule. For first contact, you should only reply through the system, not outside it via an email or phone number. Under 10, those people can not receive or send messages through the system. This only applies to the classifieds, the forums are different and can be used by new members. None the less that still sucks, losing money like that. While not 100%, if the member has a high post showing under their name, that should be a different story, re how they are contacted.

It is the truth and may apply in this scenario. Also it was stated in a context answering another statement. Yes I have nerve to state factual observations.

Well I guess my "factual observations" were hitting a little to close to home, and that's why it was removed (used no cussing or anything), but that's OK, carry on...silly me

saxman657 - Curious to know if you have been able to conclude a satisfactory transaction with the vendor in question - either received the carburetor or a refund. The reason is that I am in the midst of dealing with the same vendor on an early V8 item priced somewhat higher than the Model A piece you have been dealing with. I became concerned about my dealings well before seeing your post. I would have liked to PM you, but do not have enough posts to qualify (this is also my first experience with FB Swap Meet). To avoid stirring up more controversy it is probably best for you to PM me. Thanks!

I have seen prices for a B carb between $100-$200. He originally set the price at $200 and I offered $150, which he agreed to. Price was right in the ball park and the pictures he sent showed a good looking carb, so I thought it to be a very reasonable deal.

I get where you’re coming from, and I’ve learned a hard lesson. But at the same time, if there is a POS trying to screw vintage car owners out of money, I think the word needs to go out to other members on this site. Certainly this is a dispute, but hard to dispute with an SOB that doesn’t have the common courtesy to reply.

I understand several of you thinking I’m a bit quick on the draw. I’ll just say that I’d be fine with month’s delivery time if the seller would just reply to my queries. All I hear is crickets. My apologies to those that think the forum is an inappropriate place to post this. But my point has been made about this seller so no one else ends up in this predicament, and I have received some valuable tips from a couple of you.

For those that provided advice, thank you.
