Electric power Steering in a 1954 Ford pick up?
Does anyone know of a way to install electric power steering in a 1954 Ford F100 pick up. It has a 292 Y block with column shift. Is there a kit available? Is it possible to adapt a unit from a car? Any experience or info. is appreciated. Thanks.

I can’t help with your truck, but a few years back when I looked into that there was a ton of info on the jeep sites. Nearly all using car units from the junkyard, along with the wiring to go with it. Some had figured out how to dial the boost back for highway use, and back up for off road. Worth a look for you.

The car units are very common, you-tube electric power steering and you will find a bunch of good videos. Using one of those will do away with your column shift as the column is heavily modified to make all work.

If you are a member of the HAMB, there is a 52-59 Ford Social Group where a few members have installed electric power steering units

Re: Electric power Steering in a 1954 Ford pick up?
The thread that JeffB2 posted is a good all-around article giving lots of options. I installed a Saturn Vue junkyard unit in my '54 Customline.....
Saturn EPS install in '54 Customline The big difference between car and truck is the dashboard. Cars have a more prominent dash to allow for concealment of the EPS unit. Trucks.....not so much. But, you could fab some sort of cover for it. You can also buy an aftermarket EPS unit but it's basically the same as the junkyard models. Aftermarket = $1500. Junkyard with everything you need = under $200. |

I went to power steering on my 53 f-100 used A kit from cpp, could not use the column linkage , I also installed A t-5 transmission ,I realize you want the electric , but the cpp kit works nice also.
