Default Column drop twist off bolt removal

The break away clamp bolt on this column drop was broken off when I got it.
Does anyone have any tips to remove it?
I am thinking weld on washer/nut or somehow drilling it.

Every one I have removed with an easy-out. They aren't real tight and unscrew. If it was all rusty you may need some penetrating oil and or heat. Yours may need that. The threads are fine so that makes it a little tougher. You may want to soak the other end with some kind of penetrant.

I like to save them. I drill a series of 1/16" holes across the face and then angle the drill to make a screwdriver slot. A little heat maybe and they come right out and are reusable.

easy out ...a little heat if necessary...once the bolt is out you can cut a slot in it and re use it in the same drop it lived in for 80 some years or so......a little Karma thing I do.....

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of saving the bolt. Allen replacement bolts seem kind of out of place.

Here is a pic of a drop that I am getting ready to restore..but will use the slotted solution that someone made a long time ago. John is correct that a socket hex head bolt looks really bad in this location.

Before installing the new "RN" bolt why not just twist off the head and saw a slot for a screwdriver. Then install. Will make it easier for the next guy who has to remove it 100 years from now.

Why deprive them from the same fun we had?
