Default USPS problems?

For some time now, people I know have been saying that packages from the US are not being sent to Australia by USPS. They are returned to the sender.
Only yesterday, I received an email from a US friend who said that sending a parcel was no easy deal. He ended up sending the smallest flat rate box as a priority package at $69.95 US dollars. That's close to $100 Australian dollars. OUCH!
Does anybody know what is happening?

in general, people not wanting to work during the "covid crisis".

I see it everywhere in every occupation. Many newbies coming into the workforce that dont have a clue as to what they are doing. On the other end, if you are near retirement, many are retiring early.

a real "win win" situation.............not.

Dec 26.

Synchro,

If I have to send a package I will use United Parcel Service (UPS) or Fed-X. Not as inexpensive as the post office, but a lot more reliable. What is the best parcel delivery service in Australia?

USPS advises that they will not ship a PRIORITY MAIL to Australia. I put an item on ebay and a guy in Australia bid on it. I advised him that I would not ship Internationally. I re-posted it advertising No International shipping, the same SOB bid on it again. Go figure.

We use MyUS to ship ex USA, get it in a few days. Its easy, setup an account, get the vendors to ship to that US address and they forward it to you. Pricing is based on wieght unless its particularly bulky.

As I expected, each side of the Pacific is blaming the other. Darn it! Maybe I won't even see the priority parcel. I wonder if USPS will refund the postage seeing they didn't do as the unwritten contract between the supplier of a service and the customer says.
All I can do is hope.

The USPS is a quasi govt organization. It is funded to a large degree by taxpayer subsidies, so the shipping fees paid over the counter are only part of the bill. Basically, its a mess.

I use Stackry. You get free storage for 45 days. You send parcels to the US address for 45 days and then they can consolidate the packages into one and send it off. Saves on postage.

Glynn, I have never heard of them but they sound like a good option. For larger shipments, I have a couple of companies that consolidate and ship by the container full - cars and all.

I agree, my mother paid too much in taxes one year by about 20k as the "accountant" she had at the time said that's what was owed. She got another accountant a few years later (I don't remember how many years) who caught the mistake. The IRS said screw off. Let them catch a mistake and tell them to screw off and see what happens. I was younger and don't remember all the details but I'm know I'm close.

@History
I do my own taxes and made a mistake (about $1500 worth) that I caught about 3 years later. I filed an amended return for that year, and the IRS refunded the money no problem. What I've noticed with gov't is they are the same as most private businesses and organizations...i.e., you need to find a competent person who cares enough to get things straightened out, and that type of person is clearly becoming more scarce throughout society, not just gov't agencies.

well Kaw- I think you should consider yourself fortunate.

here in NJ, if you overpay on anything- good luck to you. you can spend hours on the phone just trying to find competence.

My wife uses an accountant in NY for her business. One day a letter comes, you owe 4000.
the next day they refund you 13. they havent a clue as to what they are doing. It is a see saw that never seems to find resolve, esp in these times.

Just last month USPS refunded my Click-n-ship mistaken (on my part) charge. Took a couple weeks but they advised it would.

I sent a V8 cam to Aust. via USPS some years ago, it was broken in transit. The recipient sent me photos. I went to our PO and they said to contact the Aust. PO, the recipient did so. Years later we are still waiting. In the meantime I sent another cam to him and fortunately it arrived in good shape. Needless to say that was negative cash flow on my end.

Jim, once an item leaves US soil, there is no insurance on it for going overseas. the exception is documents through a pretty expensive service. otherwise, you are s outta luc!

Sold a nice chevy viking mascot to a fella in Australia, several yrs ago. he said he never got it. Paypal reimbursed him, but I dont ship anything overseas any longer, for just that reason.
