Crankshaft ID
I am finally assembling my 32 engine. I had the crank in the engine replaced decades ago. The engine was rough and the crank was rusty and worn. I would like to determine the year of the crank I put in. Is there thread or a picture that would help. It is not a 32 crank.
I have 18- rods and also 21- rods. I would use the later rods if it is a 35 up crank. The 18 rods weigh one oz. less than the 21 rods. |

Re: Crankshaft ID
I think all Babbitt block crankshafts are interchangeable. The main bearings got bigger when insert mains came out. If you didn't need to grind down the mains a lot to fit the block you have a Babbitt crankshaft. Here are a couple pictures provided by a Ford Barn member showing the difference between a cast 33 and later crank vs a forged 32 crank.

Re: Crankshaft ID
Thanks for the info.
Mine is like the 33 crank. It does use the slinger on the rear main instead of an actual seal. I need to determine when the rear seal was introduced. My 34 did not have a seal. |
