Mark, that would be perfect. You could use any flasher when you hook that all up. LED's don't draw enough power themselves to operate (any) flasher. With incandesant lamps in the system, you could any flasher and it should work fine!

Conventional flasher units use the current draw going to the lights that are flashing to turn them off and on. A little spring inside the unit gets hot from the current flowing through it and opens up the contacts. With no current, the spring cools and the points close. Repeat...

LED lights draw very little current, so your lights may not flash with a conventional flasher because not enough current goes through it to open the points. However, there are "electronic" flasher units that are not sensitive to current load. If you can find one of them, you will be good. HTH.

You do not say if you are 6V, 12V, etc., so YMMV. But that's what you need.

I run a SigStat 900 with LED Tails, Standard bulb Cowls for directionals. I ran the Cowl light wires off of the harness into a pair of Cat Eyes Amber Driving lights.

Here's the wiring diagram.

Thank you for this, Where did you by the unit and if i am looking at correct this is it and seems very basic setup? IS this correct, LED tail lights work as signals and cowl lights with standard bulbs.

Mine was on the car when I bought it, but I had to rewire everything last year. There is a weird little crimp at the brake light switch that I cannot grasp with logic, but it works.

Flasher is #A-13311 at Snyders.

Yes, it runs the LED's at the rear and bulbs in the cowls. Very basic wiring, I zip strap the wires and flasher down the steering column. The flasher does seem to be heat sensitive (it was under the hood originally), and the steering column seems more to its liking.

Mark, you just need to put any regular bulb on each side of your flasher, it can even be an indicator bulb on your instrument cluster, you just need something to trigger a draw response from your flasher unit.

Jim, I made a flasher that is completely independant of the load. I think Kevin from NJ has the information on his site. It consists of a capacitor and relay and will click even with no lights of any kind.

In the wiring diagram for the 902/903 switch, is the SigStat anything more than a simple DPDT on-off-on toggle switch? I don't want the lever mounted on the steering column but rater a small toggle under the dash rail.

I have collected a whole set of turn signal wiring diagrams, and they may be found at

http://www.cedarcreekas.org/

in the "TechTopics" section. In addition there is an article there regarding installing them along with the changes required if you're converting to a 12v system.

To answer the original question: a standard flasher will work just fine with LED tail lights as long as there is an incandescent bulb somewhere else in the system: e.g., the cowl light (i.e., front turn signal bulb) or an indicator light or...

Regards,

Bill Lee
