Default Leaver on Steering Column

I haven't seen this on others, is this common?

It looks like a leaver - I can only pull it up a little bit, and don't know what the heck it does.
Other pics I seen of steering column mounts for 29 Phaeton's don't have this, what is it?

That is part of an accessory starter switch lever. Probably made by Fulton but there might have been other makers.

It connects to the steering column mount, and you can just pull up on that left side. Nothing connected to on the rite side that is shown.

Maybe- if I look directly under it, seems like a rod would go straight down the the starter

Yep! That's the Fulton style easy start handle. You can make a replacement rod and make it functional. From my understanding (which may be completely wrong) It was to make it easier for men with big feet and women to start the car. Instead of looking for the starter rod with your foot you just lift the lever. Very Cool part!

It is indeed a Fulton Up-Starter, missing just the rod to connect it to the starter. I have one on my Roadster and I LOVE it. I can actually stand outside the car and start it! Pretty cool!!

Here are a couple of pictures of the one on my pick up. The rod is threaded on the end that goes into the starter switch and has a small dimple on the other end that the the end of the lever rests in. Just lift the lever to start the car. It works great.

Here's mine, it still has the gold decal from Fulton! Jim By the way, I had to replace the rod as well. I used 3/8" stainless rod about 18" long I think....

Check Sacramento Vintage Ford part number 00653-7 for a similar starter linkage.

I believe they were repopped at one time. I bought one from a guy in the Dallas club and it appears to be a reproduction. However, I don't think they are currently being made.

I have a clamp on style lever that could be adapted to make one. Would just have to fabricate a rod. Rod
