Oil pan finishing
I received a replacment oil pan from berts
https://youtu.be/xG_zF_eAsvA Looking for suggestions on what paints etc I should use to finish it. Should the inside be not finished or some other paint coating be used?

Use a dolly and a hammer to flatten each of the pan rail bolt holes prior to paint work. Often these pan bolts were over-tightened which distorted the pan (-which can cause oil leaks.) Originally the pans were sprayed in Pyroxilyn, so it really should not have a 95% reflectivity (gloss). If you look at original photographs, the paint was very, very thin. A light coat of epoxy over any bodywork and then two-coat it with a flattened 2K urethane is best IMO. I have even used Saran Wrap to lightly touch the sides and bottom when the paint is wet to replicate the pictures in the Paint & Refinish Guide. If you do not care about authenticity, then spray with a 2K urethane and be finished with it. |

Thank you for your wisdom... plain bare metal inside and flatten the holes etc. -MikeH
