Thumbs down vacuum motor, wipers

My 1950 ford, F1...Frustration is closing in on me...

the motor has 2 inlets for a vacuum, I inserted one end and it turns the driver arm side....
1)What to do with the other vacuum nipple??

The bar that connects the driver side is slotted to fit the turn knobs but....

2)How the heck do they get this bar to stay as it turns???
I can hold it by hand and it turns, I remove my hand and it falls off..
I tied rubber bands...they break, tie downs..they break..I think they should have fitting holes instead of slots...
For now, I want to know what am I missing>>

3)Do you have sketch on how this fits and stays on the turn knobs???
