Default Need advice on 239 255 Flathead cylinder sleeves

Greetings

Hello from over the pond.

I need some information regarding cylinder sleeves.Especially length.
I know that MAC`s sell sleeves for flatheads but i also have local supplier here in uk which should save me few Ģ.

So, can any one tell me if i can use those available locally??

Sizes:
Mac`s (USA) - 1/8 Wall - Nominal Bore 3.187 - Length 6.531 (my reference)
Westwood cyliner liners (UK) - Bore 3.187 Wall 0.128 Lengh 5.920 (my option but bit more than 1/2" short)
or
Westwood Bore (UK) - 3.188 Wall 0.249 Lenght 8.000

Thanks a lot in advance for advice.
Kris

I am not sure but I think they are pulled in from the top to the point where the bottom of the sleeve meets the bottom of the cylinder, then the excess is milled off the top to match the deck. So the sleeve should be at least as long as the cylinder and probably slightly longer to allow for milling it even with the deck so that the head gasket fits correctly.

Hi Kris, the 6.500" sleeves will work fine, this is the only length we've worked with over the years!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. The wall thickness is normally determined by the end result you need. Some need the 3/32" and some need the .125" (these are nominal numbers)?

Letīs take a look at it from what can be done....what is the largest bore the engine can take in theory....
If the sleeve outer diam is less then that it will work.
So the last sleeve would fit in theory....
Is it ideal...never fun to bore out more then you have to for 2 reasons...block strenght and it takes time to go several passses with the boringbar.
There must be a sleeve with an outer diam of about 3.312 and a lenght over 6.5 available from you supplier...engine doesnīt care if itīs metric
If it doesnīt work out i have melling sleeves on the shelf here.

Hi guys, sorry for late response. For some reason i`m not getting any email notification.

Yes, that dimensions are nominal.

I could not find any sleeve to be 6.5" tall. Hence i know now that the overall lenght of the bore is about 6.5" as well. I was hoping to leave that 1/2" step before the bottom for the sleeve to rest. Flatheadmurre, how much would you like for the set of 8 sleeves? shipping to uk will of course kill any single deal

Just as a point of information, the postwar 6 cylinder IOE Bentley engines had a half length liner which worked perfectly well. So, a liner that is 1/2" short should be no problem at all, as long as you can hone to the same size all the way down. Or check where the bottom ring comes relative to the liner.
