Default 1929 Murray Exterior Door Handles

I have come up with an issue with replacement exterior door handles for 29 Murray. I purchased from Snyders product # A-702350-C and A-702351-C door handles that fit a 28-29 4 drs, Cabriolets and Victoria's. These look just like mine with scroll type handle. The replacements have two issues, first is on the back of the handle there is a round part that fits in the wood. New handles have a much bigger round part which I can drill the wood out to except it. So that is not much of a problem.

The real issue is the replacement handles escutcheon is much smaller than the original. Also the screw holes are off quite a bit. What should I be ordering or are these handles not available??

How bad were your originals? Patina is in these days. Or get them rechromed.

Yes, rechroming them has crossed my mind. The original handles have some corrosion on them but they are not pitted. Being a frame off restoration I was hoping for reproductions that were nice and shinny. I am sure that someone else has had this issue..

Personal opinion here, but frame off restoration would be restore what's there in my eyes, and if you're spending the money and time on that, a good rechrome probably wont kill you. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the reproduction handles not known to be the best anyways? Maybe the quality has improved...

Whatever you do, don't throw out the originals!
