Vintique 39-40 hood arms
I know that Vintique repro parts are not among the most desirable of replacement parts but what about their hood arms?
Has anyone found them to the exception? I need some replacements for my 39 Deluxe. Thanks! Phil |

I Bought replacement arms (I have a 39) they work fine. I would strongly recommend you also get the proper bolts. I think they are the real key in the smooth operation of opening and closing the hood

Thanks "Leo" I've always enjoyed seeing your coupe in that (Dartmouth?) green color.
I could sure use some photos of your hood underside to compare with what I have. Mine appears to have a number of issues with the arms, hinges and brackets but a picture of a correctly functioning hood would help a lot. Phil |

Re: Vintique 39-40 hood arms
The 40 hood arm hinges are the same as 39 deluxes except for the addition of an extra mounting bracket on the bottom which attaches it better to the cowl.
Gives it more stability and a smoother movement. You just need to drill 2 extra holes on each side. You can always remove them if you don't wish to use them. Regards, Chris.NZ. Last edited by swoopNZ; 11-12-2015 at 05:49 PM. |

Re: Vintique 39-40 hood arms
Are the hinges/arms sold by Bob Drake made for him or are they Vintique in disguise?
I could use some more advice here as I don't like buying inferior quality. Adileo likes his set by Vintique.. How about some others???????? |

Re: Vintique 39-40 hood arms
I have a 39 Standard and bought a set of vintique hinges. They do not fit. I put them on the shelf and repaired mine, Thanks to Kube for the info .

Re: Vintique 39-40 hood arms
I know the car hinges are different from the pickup. As to the pickup hinges, use your original hinges no matter how bad they are. Repair them and use the correct bolts. Repos for pickups are not usable. Aligning the hood is almost impossible even when using original hinges. And yes Mike (kube) is the guru on all things '40.
Just an opinion |

Re: Vintique 39-40 hood arms
39 standards only have 1 hood support arm mounted on the LH side.
This was because the hood was far lighter than the 39 deluxe one. It's really only a 39 deluxe LH with 2 bends in the lower arm. Can't understand why all the vendors sell them as a pair. Last edited by swoopNZ; 11-12-2015 at 05:50 PM. |

Re: Vintique 39-40 hood arms
I can't answer your question, but I bought Bob Drake's hinges for my '40 deluxe several years ago, and they fit very well. They compared as close as I could measure to several original (very worn and bent/beat up) sets I have. The only issue was that the arms were very "tight", and needed a little break in.

Re: Vintique 39-40 hood arms
Thanks folks, for your input. I wound up with a combination of Drake's SS brackets and Vintique's SS hinges and springs and SS shoulder bolts. Has to be way better than my rickety originals.
