Oil Pump Pickup
I’m in the process of rebuilding a Flathead for a customer. He supplied me with all the parts. So I noticed this new oil pump pickup and compared it to an original unit. Notice the pickup tube is much shorter on the new one vs the original. What’s everyone else using ? This just doesn’t seem right to me.

Re: Oil Pump Pickup
IMHO It shouldn't make any difference. Apart from the oil pump having to to do a couple of extra turns on start-up or after an oil change. Once the air has been sucked out they will both perform the same because the oil level in the pan will be well above the intake area.

Re: Oil Pump Pickup
Ken,
that is good example about reproduction oil pump pickup. It is useless and very dangerous. I do believe them all are like this? Any braking, cornering, acceleration and there is a change oil pump will get air. I would't want start engine with something like this inside. Use original. if you have to build engine with that gray one, remove all chinese paint first, weld extension and check it carefully. |

The air will not get in any easier, as it can only enter at the same point, in either pick-up. |
